Since I was so excited to get painting this weekend I decided to forgo any formal learning I was going to do and see if I could just hop on a YouTube tutorial and paint something nice. I found a video by Makoccino that said it was A) for beginners b) step by step C) easy and D) used fall colours. I jumped to the second panel they demonstrated and followed along as best I could.

It was great! I had to stop the video here and there since it was a tad faster than what I could keep up with, but overall I really enjoyed it! Even though I made mistakes (a lot) the watercolour medium was perfect for fixing errors. I tried to keep Bob Ross in mind as I was going and remember that painting is not about producing the perfect picture, but the journey you go on as you paint. Once I started accepting that my painting would (of course) look different than the video, I started to watch how the artist in the video was making brushstrokes and mixing their paint and I discovered I could learn a lot from just watching someone else paint.

Next time, I am going to attempt what the artist in the video did and use a photograph as a reference.
